From the ABC6 News Team

We asked the ABC6 News Team, “What is your favorite Southern New England summer event?” Here are their answers.

John DeLuca | News Anchor
Rhode Island and Southern New England boast so much natural beauty, especially along the coast. The beaches are spectacular, each with their own specific charm and character. However, my favorite summer event pulls me and my wife Amy away from the coast and back to Providence for a night of WaterFire. The warm air combined with the relaxing music and stunning bonfires on the rivers can’t be beat. Especially when we start the night off with a fantastic dinner and drinks at some of the city’s incredible restaurants. WaterFire is a Rhode Island treasure that always makes for a memorable evening.
Alana Cerrone | News Anchor
I am a true Rhode Island-coast lover. In the summertime, my favorite way to soak it all up is to take a trip to Galilee. The farmer’s market at Fisherman’s Memorial Park is a great pit stop for some local treats.
If I’m feeling adventurous, I’ll hop right into the water off Great Island for some quahogging (I use my hands and feet — no rake for me!). Then it’s just a short walk to some great seafood at George’s or Champlin’s, two of my favorite spots for a great lunch on the water watching the boats come through the channel. That’s my perfect summer day in Southern New England!
Jeff Desnoyers | Meteorologist
My favorite summer event is the 4th of July Celebration in Bristol. Each year ABC6 is lucky enough to cover not only the parade but all the amazing events leading up to the big day. The people in Bristol are so wonderful and the tradition is hard to top. It is the event I look forward to each year and although it’s a day of work for me, there is no other place I would rather be on July 4th.
Nick Coit | Sports Director
Any event surrounding the 4th of July is always something I look forward to every summer, whether that’s a parade or a cookout with family and friends. But really, I’d say my favorite event is a night by the fire in the backyard at the Coit house. Bringing out the sticks, graham crackers, marshmallows, and Hershey’s chocolate bars for some s’mores is a perfect way to top off a summer night!
